ABOUT ME

My name is Brad Taylor and I am an 8th grade science teacher here at CGMS.  This will be my 19th year as an educator, during that time, I have taught 7th grade science and math and have spend the bulk of my tenure in 8th grade science.  I am pretty much a native of Rowan county although I was born in Asheville but moved here when I was in 3rd grade.  I attended Granite Quarry Elementary, Erwin and East Rowan.  I'm also a graduate of North Carolina State University (and consequently, a huge State fan!) Unlike most of my colleagues, I was not an education major in college.  I majored in Fisheries & Wildlife Science and before entering the education field, I worked as a research technician for the university, a biologist in Puerto Rico and spent time studying in Australia.

I have been married to my wife Teresa for almost 17 years and we have a son, Cole, who is going into 6th grade at Gray Stone Day School.  In 2003 I began building wooden duck hunting boats. Since that time have been featured in several magazines and have boats in 12 different States from NC to Oregon!  I also own a small woodworking company, where I primarily make cutting boards. Feel free to check out either one or both! www.tollerboatworks.com and www.compasswoodworksco.com

Science has always my passion when it came to learning and even as a young child, I can remember being fascinated to shows on the discovery channel about the animals of all kinds, diving in the ocean on practically unseen worlds, and spent many of my hours outdoors.  I would consider myself a lifelong learner when it comes to science, especially natural sciences, where there is so much wonder and amazement in even the tiniest of creatures if you really stop to think about it.

I look forward to having you (or if you are a parent, your child) this year in science.  As the years pass, you may or may not be able to recall one thing you learned in my class but my hope is that when you found something interesting that it made you seek it out to help define who you are.
