This week we are going to be trying to come up with a prototype of an invention to solve one of the problems with plastic that you have identified.  I would really Love for you to come up with some type of invention, but due to the constraints we are under I am okay if you can come up with an initiative that has evidence that it will work.  Please don't just slap something down! (otherwise it will just be graded as incomplete with feedback on how to fix it!)

  • Monday & Tuesday - (Monday Morning EDIT: Some of you were having problems.  I have uploaded the video and linked it here, It may take a few before google converts it, I also uploaded the article as a PDF) Read the Article, Engineering Is Bringing Fish Up from the Deep  and  watch the accompanying video.  Answer the Criteria and constraints for the article. You will also identify criteria and constraints for your invention/solution/initiative on this document as well. Submit on Canvas.

  • Thursday/Friday - Developing your Prototype.  If you are doing an initiative you can still use the same document but where you will put in your solution in place of the rough sketch of your solution, how you implement your initiative in the materials needed and your supporting evidence in place of the major features. Please know I will most likely give you feedback for things to improve on, so please make sure you check the comments on the assignment.

Monday April 27th - May 1st

Remember the new schedule.  Assignments will be given for the week, and As I've been doing I will give you a suggested schedule for completing the work. Coffee Talks will still be posted daily. This week we are going to delve a little deeper into the problems with plastics.  I can't stress enough, please don't just slap something down as the more you look into it, the easier the final product will be at the end.   Remember we will end with a culminating project based off of engineering for good. Each step will be uploaded in canvas for feedback.

    • Guys with this project you really need to understand, this isn't a slap something down and turn it in.  I want you to convince me that you understand the obstacles to exploring deep oceans and as a tourist make me want to book a trip with you. We are going to be working on this for four days so if you want to kind or rough draft or mock things up to submit I can give you some feedback.  Otherwise, I think you are going to get frustrated thinking that you are done as I am going to critique it, offer guidance and wait on you to resubmit.  If you have any questions at all Email me, message me on remind or simply submit under comments on the assignment.

Thursday April 2nd

  • Coffee Talk   - Sorry it took so long, went down to check on Taz & Spaz then we were Zooming after that!

  • Over the next 3 days you are going to be designing your own Deep Sea Submersible that would be available for commercial (Tourist travel).  Please click on assignment for your instructions.  Please take your time on this and let your creativity flow!  The project has 2 parts, one where you will design and draw your submersible and label the features that allows it to make successful trips to the deepest depths of the oceans. The second part is creating a brochure that advertises your trip. I would prefer that the brochure be done in pages or something similar but if you wish to draw/write, it must be colored and neat!

Wednesday April 1st

  • Coffee Talk  Here ya go.

  • You should now have some idea what a deep sea submersible is and what goes into the technology.  I would like for you to read over different types of Deep Sea Submersibles found HERE

    • Write short summary of each, be sure to include their uses and maximum depths and few advantages/Disadvantages

Monday March 30th

  • PLEASE take the time to read this:  I know learning from home is frustrating and can be stressful, it is for teachers and students!  I post things daily just to try and keep you on pace but the reality is I know things come up and sometimes things just don't go as planned.  I would love to see things completed for the week by Sunday night but again just get it done when you can.  I'm here if you need anything so please don't hesitate to reach out.

  • Compete the Ocean Zone Quizziz ( Code is 169490, sorry I've been in a zoom & forgot!).  I took the prerequisite off of this weeks module, however, PLEASE make sure you have last weeks work done before trying to put things in for this week.  You may use your foldable, diagram and NC Coach.  I trust that you won't google (although I know some of you will) just remember, you get out of this what you put in it.
